LITTLE GUS LAMONT STILL MISSING ONE YEAR LATER AS $1 MILLION REWARD OFFERED FOR ANSWERS

One year after four-year-old Gus Lamont disappeared from his family’s remote South Australian property, his family is still waiting for answers — and police have now offered a $1 million reward for information that could finally reveal what happened to him.

Gus was reported missing from Oak Park Station near Yunta on September 27, 2025.

Despite one of the largest and most intensive missing-person searches ever conducted by South Australia Police, there has been no trace of the little boy.

Police have now said they believe someone who knew Gus may have been involved in his disappearance and suspected death.

Gus was last seen playing outside on his family’s remote property at about 5pm on September 27, 2025.

According to police, his grandmother later tried to call him inside at about 5:30pm but discovered that he was no longer there.

A major search operation began soon afterward, with emergency crews and volunteers searching the vast outback property and surrounding areas.

The search continued over the following months.

Police deployed specialist teams, aircraft, drones, search dogs, Australian Defence Force personnel, SES volunteers and Indigenous trackers in an effort to locate the child.

11 MAJOR SEARCHES — BUT NO TRACE

South Australia Police have conducted 11 individual ground searches over 30 days, alongside extensive aerial searches.

Yet investigators have found no evidence establishing what happened to Gus or where he may be.

Police have also ruled out two previously considered possibilities: they say the evidence does not support the theory that Gus simply wandered away and became lost, or that he was abducted by an unknown person.

Detectives are instead focusing on the possibility that a person known to Gus was involved.

Police have described the disappearance as a major crime investigation.

On September 23, South Australian authorities announced a reward of up to $1 million for information leading to the conviction of the person or people responsible for Gus’s disappearance and/or the recovery of his remains.

Detective Superintendent Darren Fielke urged anyone with information to come forward, stressing that even information that may appear insignificant could help investigators.

The reward is one of the largest ever offered in South Australia for information connected to a missing-person investigation.

GUS’S PARENTS BREAK THEIR SILENCE

As the first anniversary approached, Gus’s parents, Jess and Josh, made a public appeal for information.

In a video message, they described their son as their “beautiful, sweet and unique little boy.”

They said Gus loved music, listening to stories and playing in the natural world.

Their message was directed at anyone who might know something about what happened.

“Someone knows what happened to Gus and may even know where he is,” his father said.

The couple had largely remained out of the public spotlight during the investigation.

They said their lives had been shattered by Gus’s disappearance and pleaded with anyone holding information to come forward.

A FAMILY STILL WAITING

For Gus’s family, the passing of a year has not brought closure.

The anniversary marks 12 months of uncertainty — without knowing where their son is or what happened to him.

Missing-person experts have described the experience as a form of ambiguous loss, in which families are left grieving while still waiting for definitive answers.

The small communities around Yunta and Peterborough have also continued to remember Gus.

Residents have spoken about seeing his photograph and remembering him as the little boy who disappeared from the remote station.

THE INVESTIGATION CONTINUES

South Australia Police say Task Force Horizon remains focused on finding answers.

Although investigators now believe Gus is unlikely to have simply wandered away, and say there is no evidence supporting an unknown-abduction theory, the circumstances surrounding his disappearance remain unresolved.

No body has been found, and no conviction has been secured.

For Gus’s parents, the message remains the same after a year:

Someone may know what happened to their little boy.

And they are still waiting for that person to come forward.
